Check Your Server

Do you have a server that is not performing the way you expect? Maybe you have just upgraded (or are about to) and want to assure yourself that your server is capable of coping with the change in workload.

This short review service from Dalleon Systems will investigate the most common causes of performance problems and give you a comprehensive report and presentation of our findings.

The review takes two days. The first is used to collect a complete 24 hour cycle of performance information while the second day provides a structured analysis of the information obtained. The outcome of this activity is an on-the-spot report and face to face presentation, where the results of the work are explained in a simple, matter of fact style. This presentation gives customers the opportunity to dig deeper into any points that interest them – or to ask questions about how some of the conclusions were reached. The style of the report is pitched at professional business people in a way that is directly relevant to them with explanations of all the terms used – along with reasons why they are important to providing a service.

The nature of this review means that it can be applied very quickly if a problem appears. It also means that if a problem only occurs at certain times, for example at month-end, the review can be booked to monitor the server on the day when the problem is expected to appear. Since the review runs for a full day, and uses an automated data collection system, it can be

applied to situations that arise outside of normal working hours. Once the full days data has been obtained the analysis is a fast process and the results become clear very quickly.

To make this health check a success we keep to a well defined methodology.

  • Arrival at site and equipment set up
  • Start the 24 hour monitoring cycle
  • While data is being collected we are able to gather background information about the nature of the situation to assist the analysis phase the next day
  • After a full day of monitoring, the collected data is fed into our analysis system. This forms the basis of the written report which is available soon after.
  • Finally, the report is presented to your team and a full explanation of the conclusions is given. This is completed with a question and answer session to make sure everyone has a good understanding of the outcome.

Whether your server is a Unix variant or runs Linux software, we will need to connect to it from our portable data collection system. This means that we will work with your support staff to get the level of access needed.
Before the time of the work we will send you all the preparatory information you need so we can make a quick start on the first day. If you prefer, we can do this ourselves on a preliminary visit.
