The KNOW YOUR DATABASE SERVER provides a web based interface to the main database parameters that can warn you of performance problems and help you to quickly diagnose their cause as they arise.

The range of information available makes this suitable for individuals who only want a high-level view of whether or not things are running smoothly, through a more detailed report of the amount of work a database is transacting, right down to low-level access to all the data the system collects from a database instance.

The monitoring package works in a similar way to our KNOW YOUR SERVER product. By interrogating a database at frequent intervals and storing it’s performance data on a dedicated system there is no need to use database resources to hold it’s own performance data and the package therefore appears to the database just as a DBA, performing read-only queries against it’s performance statistics.

The single biggest factor in poor data retrieval speeds is the layout of data on the database’s disks. Our experience has allowed us to develop several unique techniques for monitoring the way databases use their disks and therefore to report back to you if there is a problem either reading data from the database, writing to it or making updates. The product is also able to report on the most resource intensive SQL that the database is running, along with information on any internal delays that are caused.
