Know Your Server
As computer systems grow in complexity the amount of information they produce to describe their health increases. While one server can be monitored with ease, ten takes a significant proportion of an individual’s time and fifty can be unmanageable. You will often need to know which of the servers in your estate are performing within their capabilities and which ones are struggling.
Dalleon Systems is pleased to provide a solution that will ease the burden on your support staff and give your business a clear view of where their processing bottlenecks lie. The KNOW YOUR SERVER intranet gives you simple, clear and easily accessible information on the performance of all the Unix servers in your organisation. With regular updates every 5 minutes, you will be in a position to know where the delays are building up, how busy systems are compared to yesterday – or last week or even last year. Your will be able to see the long-term trends in resource usage that could lead to future problems, or could identify hardware that is no longer being used as much as it was.
The solution comes in two parts. There is a central server that stores and manages the performance data from your servers and a suite of software that runs on this server to interrogate your business systems for their performance information. This approach means we do not have to install agents on your servers, or use their resources to store the historic data of their performance. The KNOW YOUR SERVER system also runs a web server that gives a straightforward and familiar interface to your
performance data and means that it is available from any networked desktop in your organisation that has a web browser installed. Again, there is no software to be installed on your PCs and therefore no maintenance issues.
The main attributes that give rise to performance problems are all monitored on the central server and various views are available to the users. Users may start with a high-level “traffic-light” status display or they may prefer to keep a close eye on particular servers they are responsible for.
The package is easily extensible as your business grows. New servers and extra features can be added, either by your own staff or by Dalleon Systems. There are add-ons available, such as the KNOW YOUR DATABASE SERVER and TIME YOUR SERVER products which will extend the coverage to include your Oracle databases and the response times that they provide to the users.
