Users are very demanding people. When systems slow down and prevent them from working complaints are inevitable. Worse still, the reduced productivity and drop in morale will quickly start to affect your business. In contrast, batch jobs that are slowing down can affect your business too – but they won’t complain so you’ll have no warning of the problems this can cause.
A little information about the work they are doing and the situation they are in will help you avoid these problems.
Having seen this problem arise, Dalleon Systems developed a solution. Our KNOW YOUR USERS package will monitor the number of users, the type of work they are doing and also the time your batch operations take to run. All this is brought together into a report that is available to you as frequently as you need it. Whether this is daily, weekly or every 5 minutes.
The data can be reported in many ways: by time of day, user location, their department or type of application. Further we can identify your organisation’s power users and therefore which people are most likely to be affected by shortages of resource.
Batch jobs can also be monitored. Depending on how they were designed and set up (see our THE LAST DROP service) we can report on each batch job’s start time, end time, processing requirements and output. Over time this will allow you to check if their efficiency is dropping or if they are processing for data each time.
All this information can be put into workloads, with each type of work clearly defined and the resources it uses identified. When the time comes to change the volumes of work, or to upgrade an application, this information will be a critical input for forecasting the impact your changes will have. You can either use the information yourself or ask us to do the work on your behalf.
The results of this analysis is displayed in a set of clear, easy to read web pages. This can either be integrated into your company’s intranet based information system or through a web server located on the platform used to collect this data. We normally provide a dedicated platform as part of the package, or with other Dalleon Systems products. However if your organisation already has a suitable server, this can be used instead.
